Family & Diversity

Friedrich Schiller University Jena is committed to the concept of gender mainstreaming and is actively pursuing the goal of equal opportunities and gender equality of men and women as a strategic management objective and university-wide task. One major part of this is the support of conditions that make the university a place friendly to families and individuals of all genders. Therefore, doctoral candidates with children receive special support from the Graduate Academy.

Individuals with disabilities or chronic illnesses who plan to do a PhD also often face special challenges. This affects e.g. additional funding needs caused by disability, but also has an impact on the length of the PhD and the requirements within selection or admission processes. We have compiled information on working on a PhD with a disability here (in German).
