Microbial degradation of environmental pollutions

Martin Sperfeld

"I consider science as a social responsibility to face global challenges. With the help of the movie project, I would like to draw the attention to problems with environmental pollutions and strengthen the interest in applied research."

The research project

Humans are increasingly exposed to toxic pollutants that are released into the environment, where they pose a risk to human health. I am studying pollutant-degrading microorganisms that occur in the groundwater of a former gasworks site. A better understanding of these microbial degradation processes will assist in the development of new methods for biological renaturation of contaminated environments.
