The two research projects

With the help of neural networks and machine learning, Benedict Diederich attempts to reconstruct the variation of the refractive index of a cell in the three-dimensional volume. Multiple scatter effects within the sample are taken into account, which should lead to results that are more exact. The data should be recorded in the long term using a standard light microscope. Incidentally, the two scientists are trying to make this partially very cost-intensive technology available to the masses in the form of 3D printed microscopes.

Alexander Jügler develops new methods and devices for super-resolution imaging. He tries to improve further the noble price awarded localization microscopy with a holographic approach. Using this new imaging method, we want to characterize intracellular infections of fungi, which are often lethal for immunocompromised persons.
