This two-day course on basics in processing and analysis of digital images according to high scientific standards covers:

  • ƒƒ Basics in microscopy, good image acquisition, resolution and sampling
  • ƒƒ Correct resizing, contrast improvement and labeling
  • ƒƒ Reducing background and noise
  • ƒƒ Application of image filters for post-processing
  • ƒƒ Feature (cells, objects) extraction by segmentation with thresholding
  • ƒƒ Automatic counting, measurements and creation of automatic selections (ROIs)
  • ƒƒ Measurements and quantifications of (fluorescence) intensities
  • ƒƒ optional: Analysis of brightfield / color images, working with image stacks and higher dimensional images
  • ƒƒ Figure preparation guideline (good scientific practice and ethics)
  • ƒƒ Batch processing, automation of your analyses (using macros)

The workshop has a focus on life science applications and microscopic images. We will use the professional software ImageJ / Fiji for processing and analysis. Prior knowledge of the software is not required. Software and workshop script will be provided. Please bring your own laptop.
