This two-day course on basics in processing and analysis of digital images according to high scientific standards covers:

  • ƒƒ Basics in microscopy, good image acquisition, resolution and sampling
  • ƒƒ Correct resizing, contrast improvement and labeling
  • ƒƒ Reducing background, and the use of basic image filters
  • ƒƒ Application of image filters for post-processing
  • ƒƒ Feature (cells, objects) extraction by segmentation with thresholding
  • ƒƒ Automatic object counting and measuring
  • ƒƒ Measurements and quantifications of fluorescence intensities optional: Western blots)
  • ƒƒ optional: Analysis of brightfield / color images (e.g. photographs)
  • ƒƒ Working with image stacks and higher dimensional images
  • ƒƒ Figure preparation guideline (including good scientific practice and ethics)
  • ƒƒ Batch processing, automation of your analyses (using macros)

The workshop has a focus on life science applications and microscopic images. We will use the professional software ImageJ / Fiji for processing and analysis. Prior knowledge of the software is not required.
