Graduate school yDiv joins Graduate Academy

On 12 November the graduate school "Young Biodiversity Research Training Group" (yDiv) was affiliated by the Board of the Academy into the Graduate Academy (GA) . By their membership "yDiv" helps to advance the doctoral education in Jena and will support the GA in its work. Moreover the doctoral candidates of "yDiV" receive access to all offers and resources of the GA and have the opportunity to elect their representatives into the Board of the academy.

"yDiV" is embedded in the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv). It has the goal to get a better understanding of the causes of biodiversity as well as to research the consequences of its loss and to find scientific ways to protect it. "iDiv" is funded by DFG and is a joint project of the universities in Halle, Jena and Leipzig. All doctoral candidates will be guided by a team of supervisors from different research areas. Due to the close cooperation between the supervisors and the young researchers the knowledge transfer between the universities of Halle, Jena and Leipzig should be strengthened. It is planned that about 100 doctoral candidates will be researching at "yDiv" until 2016.

By now there are 20 doctoral research programs that belong to the Graduate Academy of Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. More than 500 doctoral candidates are doing their PHD at the institutions of the GA right now.
