All types of organised forms of structured doctoral education which are supported by the University can become members of the Academy. Generally, this applies to graduate schools, research training groups and structured doctoral programmes (Article 2 of Statutes the Graduate Academy).

The Graduate Academy is managed by an Executive Committee consisting of three members, which is headed by the Scientific Director. The Board of the Academy has 10 members, plus their deputies. The Board determines the Graduate Academy's profile and decides, for instance, on the admittance of new members. The Executive Committee and Director are supported by an administrative office, which is headed by a managing director.
